Prana Vinyasa®’s Mission Statement
Our goal is through education to help the people who cannot “go to” yoga, the shut-ins, people who are physically, socially or emotionally isolated. We provide skills to balance using breathing and physical opening to strengthen until the challenges can be met with awareness and confidence.
The organization targets supporting:
elders who built this country and now deal with a range of physical impairments, a terrible social cost and a tremendous inventory of experience lost
young high school graduates with no resources facing their career development with years of struggle at minimum wage
those who are socially or emotionally isolated
those with physical and mental challenges which often will weight every action and thought -there are potential Steven Hawkings who can be so much more.
Why do we think this is important?
As we taught breathing and movement classes to Seniors and in nursing homes the financial and emotional cost of this isolation moved us, until we began to seek a way to help this lost part of society.
We found 4 ways to systematically support people who have been isolated. This led us to create 4 programs to provide help in changing different aspects of individual life.
•Teach special populations in a social situation, such as a class.
•Teach caregivers who can understand and support a regular practice for special populations.
•Training Yoga teachers in the general population to deal with the special populations.
•Train professionals who work with special populations to use yoga techniques.
